ਰੱਬ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਚੰਗਾ (ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੈੜਾ। ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ) ਲਿਖੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਦੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਭੋਗੀਦੇ ਹਨ।
By His Command, some are high and some are low; by His Written Command, pain and pleasure are obtained.
ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕਦੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ (ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿੱਤ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਭਵਾਈਦੇ ਹਨ।
Some, by His Command, are blessed and forgiven; others, by His Command, wander aimlessly forever.
(ਆਓ, ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ) ਗਾਵੀਏ ਤੇ ਸੁਣੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਟਿਕਾਈਏ।
Sing, and listen, and let your mind be filled with love.
(ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਇਹ ਆਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ) ਆਪਣਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
Your pain shall be sent far away, and peace shall come to your home.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
Those who serve You find peace.
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
They are intuitively absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ !) ਤੂੰ (ਸਤਸੰਗੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ) ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ (ਖਸਮ) ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾ (ਅਤੇ ਆਖ—)
Sing the Songs of Praise of my Fearless Lord.
ਮੈਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਹਾਂ ਉਸ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਦੇ-ਗੀਤ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I am a sacrifice to that Song of Praise which brings eternal peace. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਹ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਉਹ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਵਰਤਦੇ ਹਨ, ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਕੰਡਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਚੁੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ-ਰੂਪ ਡੰਡਾ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਸਵਾਰ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ।੨।
The more they walk away, the deeper it pierces them, and the more they suffer in pain, until finally, the Messenger of Death smashes his club against their heads. ||2||
(ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦਾ ਜੰਮਣ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The humble servants of the Lord are absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. The pain of birth and the fear of death are eradicated.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰ ਦੇ ਗਰੀਬ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਹਾਂ । ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੈਂ । ਸਾਨੂੰ (ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ।
I am poor and meek, God, but I belong to You! Save me-please save me, O Greatest of the Great!
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੇਰੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ । ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੪।
Servant Nanak takes the Sustenance and Support of the Naam. In the Name of the Lord, he enjoys celestial peace. ||4||4||
ਹੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ! ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰ ।
O Inner-knower, Searcher of Hearts, O Primal Being, Architect of Destiny: please fulfill this yearning of my mind.
ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਸੰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਾ ਦੇਹ ।੪।੫।
Nanak, Your slave, begs for this happiness: let me be the dust of the feet of the Saints. ||4||5||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸੱਚੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾ
O Nanak, know the True Lord as True.
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦੇਹ ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ) ਤੇਰੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕੇ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Serving Him, peace is obtained; you shall go to His Court with honor. ||1||Pause||
ਇਹ ਖਿੱਝ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਟਦੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ), ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਿਹਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
Without the Guru, how can anyone be released from these three qualities? Through intuitive wisdom, we meet with Him and find peace.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਸਾਫ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਮਨ ਭਟਕਣੋਂ ਹਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤੇ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ) ਪਛਾਣ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Within the home of the self, the Mansion of His Presence is realized when He bestows His Glance of Grace and washes away our pollution. ||3||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੱਲਰ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ (ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜੇ) ਕਿਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਭੀ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ) ਕਿਰ ਕਿਰ ਕੇ ਢਹਿ-ਢੇਰੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Like a wall of sand, day and night, she crumbles, and eventually, she breaks down altogether.
(ਸੁਖ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਉਹ ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਤਾਂ ਸਗੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ) ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਮਾਨਸਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।੧।
Without the Word of the Shabad, peace does not come. Without her Husband Lord, her suffering does not end. ||1||
ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਅਗਨੀ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ) ਬਲਦੀ ਸੀ ਉਹ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸੱਤਿਆ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ), ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ
The burning fire of life is extinguished, and the smoke of the breath no longer emerges.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਪੰਜ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ (ਪਰ-ਤਨ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਆਦਿਕ) ਮਾਇਕ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਾਸ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਰਹੇ, ਉਹ ਵੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਰੋਏ (ਭਾਵ, ਨਕਾਰੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਤੇ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਹੋ ਗਏ) ।੧।
The five relatives (the senses) weep and wail painfully, and waste away through the love of duality. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਹ ਹੀ (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
Without the Guru, how can anyone swim across to find peace?
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਤੇ ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ) ਰੱਖ, (ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਆਸਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਸੁੱਝਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
As it pleases You, Lord, You save me. There is no other for me at all. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨਮੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ । ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਇਆ ਉਹ ਇਹੀ ਖੇਡ ਖੇਡਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ
The three qualities hold the body in bondage; whoever comes into the world is subject to their play.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਵਿੱਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਏ (ਸਦਾ) ਵਿੱਛੁੜੇ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।
Those who separate themselves from the Lord wander lost in misery. The self-willed manmukhs do not attain union with Him. ||4||
ਉਹ ਮਨ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਦਾ ਮਹਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ
then it enjoys the essence of supreme spiritual wisdom; it shall never feel hunger again.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਲੋਂ) ਮਾਰ ਕੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੁੜਿਆ ਰਹੁ, ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪੇਗਾ ।੫।੧੮।
O Nanak, conquer and subdue this mind; meet with the Lord, and you shall never again suffer in pain. ||5||18||
ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ, ਸਾਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਣਗੇ
All comforts and peace, and the Essence of the Lord, are enjoyed by acquiring spiritual wisdom in the Society of the Saints.
(ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Day and night, continually serve the Lord God; the True Guru has given the Naam. ||2||
ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਜਮਰਾਜ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਗੁੱਝੀ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਭੋਹ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹ
They wander lost and confused, deceived by doubt, suffering in terrible pain. The Messenger of Death shall beat them to a pulp.
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਅਸਚਰਜ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The self-willed manmukhs find no peace, while the Gurmukhs are wondrously joyful. ||3||
(ਉਂਞ ਭੀ) ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਹ ਵੱਸੇ, ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੀ
How can honor be attained in His Court, if the Lord does not dwell in the mind?
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ, (ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ-ਅੱਗ ਬੁੱਝ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
Meeting with the Guru, peace is found. The fire is extinguished in His Glorious Praises. ||1||
(ਪਰ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੁੜਦੀ ਹ
Join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, and find the Lord. The Gurmukh embraces love for the Lord.
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਇਉਂ ਇਕ-ਮਿਕ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਣੀ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਇਕ-ਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Give up your selfishness, and you shall find peace; like water mingling with water, you shall merge in absorption. ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ
Those who do not have the Assets of Truth-how can they find peace?
ਜੇ ਨਿੱਤ ਖੋਟਾ ਵਪਾਰ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਭੀ ਖੋਟਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੀ ਖੋਟਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਖੋਟ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
By dealing their deals of falsehood, their minds and bodies become false.
ਹੇ ਦਰੀਆ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਨ ਵਾਲੇ) ਨਾਹ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਛੀ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਹੈ, ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਦੀ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਣਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ)
I do not know of the fisherman, and I do not know of the net.
(ਤੈਥੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
But when the pain comes, then I call upon You. ||1||Pause||
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਨੂੰ) ਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਅਸਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
This body is softened with the Word of the Guru's Bani;
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹ
you shall find peace, doing seva (selfless service).
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਜੇ ਤੂੰ (ਕਾਮ-ਵਾਸਨਾ ਪੂਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ) ਲੱਖ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਆਂ ਭੀ ਭੋਗ ਲਏਂ, ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਭੀ ਕਰ ਲਏਂ
You may enjoy the pleasures of hundreds of thousands of women, and rule the nine continents of the world.
ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭ ਸਕੇਂਗਾ, (ਸਗੋਂ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ।੩।
But without the True Guru, you will not find peace; you will be reincarnated over and over again. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਦਿਕ) ਹੋਰ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ
O Siblings of Destiny, the world is in misery, engrossed in the love of duality.
ਤੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ; (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣੇਂਗਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
In the Sanctuary of the Guru, peace is found, meditating on the Naam night and day. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਚਾਰਦਾ, (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ (ਘੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਗਵਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
They do not comprehend the Word of the Shabad. They suffer in pain forever, and lose their honor in the Court of the Lord.
ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
The Gurmukhs shed their ego; attuned to the Naam, they find peace. ||1||
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ
They obtain peace in this world and the next, chanting and meditating within their hearts on the Lord.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸ-ਥਾਂ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Within the home of their own inner being, they obtain the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, reflecting on the Guru's Shabad. ||2||
(ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਹੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) । ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਤੂਤਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਜਮ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਤੱਕ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
Night and day, they suffer in pain; they see the noose of Death always hovering above them.
ਕਦੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣਦੇ, ਬਹੁਤ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾੜਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੩।
Even in their dreams, they find no peace; they are consumed by the fires of intense anxiety. ||3||
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਉਸਨੂੰ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Destroy your evil passions, and you shall dwell in peace. Whatever pleases the Lord comes to pass. ||3||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ
As one knows the True Guru, so is the peace obtained.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਜਾਣਾ ਜੰਮਣਾ ਮਰਨਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਨਮੁਖ ਨੇ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਭੀ ਗਵਾ ਲਈ ।
Coming and going through birth and death, the self-willed manmukhs lose their honor.
ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
Serving the True Guru, eternal peace is obtained, and one's light merges into the Light. ||2||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੀ ਜਤ ਸਤ ਤਪ (ਦਾ ਮੂਲ) ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦਾ) ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Abstinence, truthfulness and self-discipline are obtained, and the body is purified; the Lord, Har, Har, comes to dwell within the mind.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Such a person remains blissful forever, day and night. Meeting the Beloved, peace is found. ||3||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਇਕਾਗ੍ਰ-ਮਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪਰਾਮਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ
O Siblings of Destiny, meditate on the Naam with one-pointed mind.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Remain united with the Society of the Saints; chant the Name of the Lord, and find peace. ||1||Pause||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਣ ਨਾਲ) ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Suffering and doubt are cut out from within, and peace is obtained.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ ।੩।
One who walks in harmony with the Guru's Will shall not suffer in pain. ||3||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ
The Lord Himself, the Life of the World, is the Giver of Peace. He Himself forgives, and unites with Himself.
(ਜੇ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਅਸਮਰਥ ਹਨ । (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਨਾਹ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ) ਆਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਸੁਣਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
So what about all these poor beings and creatures? What can anyone say?
ਉਹ ਮਾਂ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੰੂ) ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ) ਪਿਤਾ ਭੀ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਾਤੀ ਵਿਚ) ਸੇ੍ਰਸ਼ਟ ਹੈ । ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਲਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Blessed is the mother who gave birth; blessed and respected is the father of one who serves the True Guru and finds peace. His arrogant pride is banished from within.
(ਜੇਹੜੇ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸਾਵਧਾਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
Standing at the Lord's Door, the humble Saints serve Him; they find the Treasure of Excellence. ||1||
(ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ) ਇਹ ਮਨ (ਤਾਂ) ਬੜਾ ਬਲਵਾਨ ਹੈ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ) ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਹੀਲੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ (ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾਣੋਂ) ਛੱਡਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ
This mind is very powerful; we cannot escape it just by trying.
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਦੁੱਖ ਚੰਬੋੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਬੜੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
In the love of duality, people suffer in pain, condemned to terrible punishment.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ
O mind, give up the love of duality.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਫਿਰ ਭੀ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁੱਖ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Lord dwells within you; serving the Guru, you shall find peace. ||Pause||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ ਵੇਖ
O my mind, see the Lord ever close at hand.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ, ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰ) ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
He shall remove the pains of death and rebirth; the Word of the Shabad shall fill you to overflowing. ||1||Pause||
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੀ ਇਕ) ਐਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਹੈ ਐਸੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ) ਨਾਮ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
By this work and service, the Naam shall come to dwell within my mind.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Through the Naam, peace is obtained; I am adorned and embellished by the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ ?) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥ ਹੈ, (ਉਂਞ) ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆਂ (ਇਹ ਸੱਚਾਈ) ਆਖੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ (ਭਾਵ, ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ)
God Himself is everything; those who are in their ego cannot even speak of this.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is realized, and the pain of egotism is eradicated from within.
(ਇਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ (-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹ
Night and day, remain attuned to the Naam, and the pain of corruption shall be dispelled from within.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੨੨।੫੫।
O Nanak, merging with the Shabad through the Name, one is immersed in the Name. ||4||22||55||
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਾਂ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸੁਖੈਨ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹ
Praise the Word of the Shabad, and He shall come to dwell in your mind; you shall be blessed with intuitive peace and poise.
ਉਹ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਹਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ । ਜਿਸ ਨੰੂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਰਜ਼ੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ (ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ) ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Everything is within the Lord's Glance of Grace. As He wishes, He gives. ||2||
(ਜਿੱਥੇ) ਹਉਮੈ (ਹੈ ਉੱਥੇ) ਨਿਰੀ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਹੈ, ਚਿੰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ
In egotism, all must account for their actions. In this accounting, there is no peace.
(ਹਉਮੈ ਦੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਜੀਵ ਉਸ ਜ਼ਹ੧ਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ, ਮਗਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
Acting in evil and corruption, people are immersed in corruption.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੱੁਖਾਂ (ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ) ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੰੂ ਸਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ ਸੁੱਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
Those who have the Support of the True Name are in ecstasy and peace forever.
(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they obtain the True One, the Destroyer of pain.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰ
O my mind, walk in harmony with the True Guru.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਆਤਮੇ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇਂਗਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਭਟਕਣਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਵੇਂਗਾ), ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀਵੇਂਗਾ, ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਲੱਭ ਲਵੇਂਗਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Dwell within the home of your own inner being, and drink in the Ambrosial Nectar; you shall attain the Peace of the Mansion of His Presence. ||1||Pause||
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਬਥੇਰੇ (ਸੰਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿੱਤਰ ਬਣਾ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਥੱਕ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹਾਂ (ਮੈ ਸਮਝਦੀ ਰਹੀ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਕ-ਸੰਬੰਧੀ) ਮੇਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟ ਸਕੇਗਾ
I have grown weary of making so many friends, hoping that someone might be able to end my suffering.
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹ
Meeting with my Beloved, my suffering has ended; I have attained Union with the Word of the Shabad.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਜੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ-ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਵੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
O my mind, attuned to the Naam, you shall find peace.
(ਪਰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਲਾਹੁਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Follow the Guru's Teachings, and praise the Naam; there is no other at all. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
The Word of the Gurmukh is God Himself. Through the Shabad, we merge in Him.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ, ਇਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੩੦।੬੩।
O Nanak, remember the Naam; serving Him, peace is obtained. ||4||30||63||
ਜਗਤ ਨੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ (ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ (ਹੀ) ਸਹਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜਗਤ ਨੰੂ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਮੈਲ ਚੰਬੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ
The world is polluted with the filth of egotism, suffering in pain. This filth sticks to them because of their love of duality.
ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੌ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ (ਭੀ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ (ਅਜੇਹੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ (ਇਹ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਧੋਤਿਆਂ (ਮਨ ਤੋਂ) ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ
This filth of egotism cannot be washed away, even by taking cleansing baths at hundreds of sacred shrines.
(ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ) ਮਾਇਆ (ਦੇ ਮੋਹ) ਜੇਡਾ (ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ) ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ (ਮਾਇਆ) ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕ ਭਟਕ ਕੇ ਖਪਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ
There is no pain as great as the pain of Maya; it drives people to wander all around the world, until they become exhausted.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
Through the Guru's Teachings, peace is found, with the True Name enshrined in the heart. ||3||
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ ਭਾਰੀ ਦਰਦ ਹੈ (ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਤੜਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆ ਮਿਲੇ
Within my mind and body is the intense pain of separation; how can my Beloved come to meet me in my home?
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮੇਰਾ (ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
When I see my God, seeing God Himself, my pain is taken away.
ਚੰਗੀ ਕਿਸਮਤਿ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ (ਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਭਾਵੇਂ) ਸਾਡੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੈ, ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੈ
Without destiny, the True Guru is not found, even though He sits within the home of our own inner being, always near and close at hand.
ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ (ਦੇ ਹਨੇਰੇ) ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣੀ ਲੱਗੀ ਰਹੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦਾ ਤੇ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਦਾ ਪਰਦਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
There is ignorance within, and the pain of doubt, like a separating screen.
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਹੀ) ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
O Siblings of Destiny, peace is found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਉਸ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਨੇ (ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੰਗੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖ ਲਿਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਮ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
If the Supreme Lord, the Architect of Destiny, writes such an order, then anguish and anxiety are erased. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਪਏ, ਤਾਂ ਨਾਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ, ਨਾਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ
Pain and hunger shall not oppress you, if the Giver of Peace comes into your mind.
ਜਦੋਂ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀਏ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ
No undertaking shall fail, when the True Lord is always in your heart.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ
O my mind, chant the Name with intuitive peace and poise.
ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, ਸਦਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on God. Constantly sing the Glories of the Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਦੱੁਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਉੱੱਕਾ ਹੀ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ
Remembering Him in meditation, a profound peace is obtained. Pain and suffering will not touch you at all.
(ਹੇ ਮਨ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਉਸੇ ਦੀ ਹੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ ।੨।
Forever and ever, work for God; He is our True Lord and Master. ||2||
(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਰੱਖ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ
The One is the Support of the mind; the One is the Support of the breath of life.
ਉਹ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕਰਤਾਰ (ਹੀ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
In His Sanctuary there is eternal peace. He is the Supreme Lord God, the Creator. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ) ਸਾਰਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Meeting the True Guru, all my sufferings have ended, and the Peace of the Lord has come to dwell within my mind.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ) ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਦਾ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The Divine Light illuminates my inner being, and I am lovingly absorbed in the One.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
O my mind, you shall find peace through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਹ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Working for the Perfect Guru, no one goes away empty-handed. ||1||Pause||
ਉਹ (ਭਗਤ) ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ (ਪਿਆਰ-) ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਸੰਭਾਲਦੇ ਹਨ
Twenty-four hours a day, they lovingly dwell upon His Glories; they are imbued with His Infinite Love.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਕੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੧੧।੮੧।
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to the Supreme Lord God, the Ocean of Peace. ||4||11||81||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ (ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾ, ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ (ਅਸੀ) ਜਪ ਸਕੀਏ
Please grant Your Grace, God, that we may meditate on Your Ambrosial Naam.
ਜਨਮ-ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਣ ਦਾ ਅਸੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੱੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਏ, ਤੇ ਸਾਡੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਏ ।੧।
The pains of birth and death are taken away; we are intuitively centered on His Meditation. ||1||
ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਮਨ !) ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਬੈਠ, (ਤੇ ਉਥੋਂ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੀ ਬਾਣੀ (ਦਾ ਸੌਦਾ) ਖ਼ਰੀਦ
O most fortunate ones, join the Sangat, the Blessed Congregation; purchase the True Word of the Shabad.
(ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜਾਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੇ) ਸੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕਰ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਾਤਿਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ ।੨।
Serve the Lord, the Ocean of Peace, the Supreme Lord over kings and emperors. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਮਾਂ !) ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਰਦ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਲੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
He is the Destroyer of the pain and suffering of the meek. He bears True Love for His servants.
ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਰੂਪ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ । ਹੇ ਮਾਂ ! ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਮਿਲਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Wondrous is the Form of the Immaculate One. Through the Guru, I have met Him, O my mother! ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟਣ ਦੀ ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ
Continually sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe, the Destroyer of demerits.
ਅਸਾਂ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨ ਜਾਣੋ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਰੇ ਖਿਲਾਰਿਆਂ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ
Without the Name of the Lord, there is no peace. Having tried all sorts of ostentatious displays, I have come to see this.
ਮੈਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ
There is none to compare with the Guru; I have searched and looked throughout the entire universe.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਖਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ (ਸਦਾ ਲਈ) ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰੋ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ।੪।੨੦।੬੦।
The True Guru has bestowed the Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. O Nanak, the mind is filled with peace. ||4||20||90||
(ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ ! ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਤੂੰ) ਪੇਕੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੈਂ, ਉਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ) ਤੂੰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਮਰਦੀ ਰਹੁ, ਸਹੁਰੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਜਾ ਕੇ) ਤੂੰ ਸੁਖੀ ਵੱਸੇਂਗੀ
In this world of your parents' home, serve your Husband Lord; in the world beyond, in your in-laws' home, you shall dwell in peace.
(ਹੇ ਜਿੰਦੇ !) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜਾਚ ਸਿੱਖ, ਚੰਗਾ ਆਚਰਨ ਬਣਾਣਾ ਸਿੱਖ, ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪੇਗਾ ।੩।
Meeting with the Guru, be a sincere student of proper conduct, and suffering shall never touch you. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ (ਸਦਾ) ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੋਈ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਕੋਈ ਡਰ ਪੋਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ
Suffering, agony and fear do not cling to one whose heart is filled with the GurMantra.
ਲੋਕ ਕੋ੍ਰੜਾਂ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ) ਜਤਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਥੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ) ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ।੨।
Trying millions of things, people have grown weary, but without the Guru, none have been saved. ||2||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ
Those who have realized the Truth are at peace throughout the four ages.
ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਾ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Subduing their egotism and desires, they keep the True Name enshrined in their hearts.
(ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਅੱਗੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੁ, (ਗੁਰੂ) ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Offer your most sincere prayers to the True Guru, so that He may unite you with your Best Friend.
ਜੇ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਤਾਂ (ਇਉਂ ਸਮਝੋ ਕਿ) ਜ਼ਹਰ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਢੁਕਦੇ)
Meeting your Best Friend, you shall find peace; the Messenger of Death shall take poison and die.
ਹੇ ਭੋਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਏ ! ਜੋ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰ, ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੀ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ
O soul-bride, without virtue, what happiness can there be?
ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ (ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜੀ ਹੋਈ) ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ (ਮਸਤ) ਹੈ । ਪਤੀ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇ ਸੁਖ (ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
The Husband Lord enjoys her with pleasure and delight; she is at peace in the love of the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਮੱਛੀ ਤੜਫਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਤਰਲੇ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ
like the fish in shallow water, crying for mercy.
ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਚੰਗੇ ਲੱਗੇ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਆਪ (ਉਸ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਕਰੇ ।੨।
As it pleases the Will of the Husband Lord, peace is obtained, when He Himself casts His Glance of Grace. ||2||
(ਗੁਣ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੀ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ) ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ (ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਖੋਟੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The soul-bride is of no use at all, if she is evil and without virtue.
ਹੇ ਭੋਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ! (ਆਤਮਕ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਗੁਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਾਸੀ ਬਣ, ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਵੇਗ
O young bride, be a slave to virtue, and you shall find peace.
ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਪੂਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Renouncing wrongful actions, following the Guru's Teachings, you shall be absorbed into the Perfect One. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇ) ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਸਲ ਸਰਮਾਇਆ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ-ਘਰ ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ (ਅਣਪਛਾਤਾ) ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
He does not understand his own origins; the merchandise remains within the door of his own house.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ) ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੋ ਮਨੱੁਖ ਦੀ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਵੇਦਨ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਪਰਗਟਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮਨ ਸਹਜ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)
The Pure, True Lord abides within the mind; He knows the pain of our hearts.
ਸਹਜ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਉਪਜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਮ ਦਾ ਤੀਰ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੋਂਹਦਾ (ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ) ।੧।
With intuitive ease, a great peace is found, and the arrow of death shall not strike you. ||1||
ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸੁਖ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੰਗਦਾ
Everyone begs for happiness; no one asks for suffering.
ਪਰ (ਮਾਇਕ) ਸੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ-ਰੂਪ ਫਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ (ਭੇਤ) ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ (ਉਹ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਸੁਖ ਹੀ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ)
But in the wake of happiness, there comes great suffering. The self-willed manmukhs do not understand this.
(ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ । ਅਸਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਲਿਆ ਜਾਏ (ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਨੱਥ ਕੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਮੌਜ-ਮੇਲਿਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਰੋਕ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਏ) ।੫।
Those who see pain and pleasure as one and the same find peace; they are pierced through by the Shabad. ||5||
ਹੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ-ਪਏ ਕਮਲੇ ਮਨ ! (ਮੇਰੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ) ਸੁਣ (ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਉ (ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
Listen, O deluded and demented mind: hold tight to the Guru's Feet.
ਤੂੰ ਭੀ ਉਹ) ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ, (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ) ਜਮਰਾਜ (ਭੀ) ਡਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਜੜ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
Chant and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; death will be afraid of you, and suffering shall depart.
ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ (ਚਿੰਤਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਇਤਨਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਸੱਤਿਆ ਇਉਂ ਕਿਰਦੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਲਰ ਦੀ ਕੰਧ (ਕਿਰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ)
Without the Name, the body suffers in pain; it crumbles like a wall of sand.
ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਲਈ) ਤਦ ਤਕ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ) ਮਹਲ (-ਰੂਪ ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਜਦ ਤਕ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ
As long as Truth does not enter into the consciousness, the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is not found.
(ਸੋ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ ! ਇਸ ‘ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਪਦ’ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਾਂਗੀ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ) ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ
I ask my Guru for His Advice, and I follow the Guru's Advice.
ਮੈਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ, (ਭਲਾ ਕਿਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਮੇਰਾ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਸੜ ਜਾਏ,
With the Shabads of Praise abiding in the mind, the pain of egotism is burnt away.
(ਜੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਗਹਿਣਿਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਨਾਲ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਜਾ ਲਏ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਤੀ ਨਾਹ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
Without her Husband, the soul-bride's youth and ornaments are useless and wretched.
ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਭੀ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਲ ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸੇਜ ਮਾਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ, ਪਤੀ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
She does not enjoy the pleasure of His Bed; without her Husband, her ornaments are absurd.
ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ, (ਤੈਨੂੰ) ਸੁਖ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ
O mind, meditate on the Lord, and find peace.
(ਪਰ ਮਨ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਕਰੇ ? ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਏ ? ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ) ਪਿਆਰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ । ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without the Guru, love is not found. United with the Shabad, happiness is found. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਉਸੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜ ਕੇ) ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਗਾਰਿਆ ਹੈ
Serving the Guru, she finds peace, and her Husband Lord adorns her with intuitive wisdom.
ਉਹੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੀ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਸੇਜ ਮਾਣ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ), ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਹਿਤ ਹੈ ਗੂੜ੍ਹਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ
Truly, she enjoys the Bed of her Husband, through her deep love and affection.
ਤੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਇਕੋ ਧਾਗੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਮੋਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਹਾਰ ਗਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਲਈਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜੇ (ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੀ) ਇਕੋ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਧਾਗੇ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ ਮਿਕ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ
They are woven into one texture, like pearls on a necklace around the neck.
ਪਰ ਇਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਮਨ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਰਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
In the Society of the Saints, peace wells up; the Gurmukhs take the Support of the Naam. ||4||
ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਸੌਦਾ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
We gather in the True Merchandise, through the Perfect Grace of the Infinite.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਸੱੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਿਟਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ (ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ) ਦੈਂਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੩।
The True Guru is the Giver of peace, the Dispeller of pain, the Destroyer of demons. ||3||
ਜਦੋਂ ਇਕ ਰਤਾ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਭੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਯਾਦੋਂ) ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਆ ਘੇਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸੁੱਖ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
If I forget my Beloved, even for an instant, suffering overtakes me and peace departs.
ਸੜ ਜਾਏ ਉਹ ਸੜਨ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੀਭ ਜੋ ਸੁਆਦ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਪਦੀ
Let that tongue be burnt in flames, which does not chant the Naam with love.
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਹੀਨ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ ਜਦੋਂ) ਸਰੀਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੰੁਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਆਪਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਮ ਆ ਫੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ ?) ।੫।
When the pitcher of the body bursts, there is terrible pain; those who are caught by the Minister of Death regret and repent. ||5||
ਹੇ ਮਨ ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਰ, ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਮੱਛੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ
O mind, love the Lord, as the fish loves the water.
ਪਾਣੀ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਹੈ, ਮੱਛੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਸੁਖ-ਆਨੰਦ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਤਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਠੰਡ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ
The more the water, the more the happiness, and the greater the peace of mind and body.
(ਕਰਤਾਰ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ (ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਛੱਡਣ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਭੀ ਕਰੇ, ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਪਛਾਣਨ ਦਾ ਉੱਦਮ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਭੀ) ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦੀ
His Value cannot be estimated, even though everyone may wish to do so.
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਦਰ) ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਪੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਵੇ । (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
Through the Guru's Teachings, it is revealed. Meeting with the True One, peace is found. ||6||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
Applying oneself to the service of the Guru, the mind is purified, and peace is obtained.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ (ਉਪਦੇਸ਼) ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The Word of the Guru's Shabad abides within the mind, and egotism is eliminated from within.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! (ਇਸ ਠੱਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਲਈ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਸਮਰੱਥ) ਨਹੀਂ (ਦਿੱਸਦਾ)
O my Beloved, I have no one except You.
ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗਦਾ । ਜਦੋਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤਦੋਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Without You, nothing else pleases me. Loving You, I am at peace. ||1||Pause||
ਲੰਮੀ ਲੰਮੀ ਉਮਰ ਮੰਗੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਭੀ (ਛੇਤੀ) ਮਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ
Everyone begs for a long life-no one wishes to die.
ਪਰ ਉਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਸੁਖੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਕਹਿ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ
A life of peace and comfort comes to that Gurmukh, within whom God dwells.
ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ-ਸਰੂਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ
My God is forever Immaculate and Pure; with a pure mind, He can be found.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਜੋ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ) ਖ਼ਜਾਨਾ (ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
If the Treasure of the Name of the Lord abides within the mind, egotism and pain are totally eliminated.
ਗੁਰੂ (ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸਰਧਾ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਨਾਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ
Without the True Guru, faith does not come, and love for the Naam is not embraced.
(ਤੇ ਨਤੀਜਾ ਇਹ ਨਿਕਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਸੁਖ ਨਸੀਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਘਿਰਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
Even in dreams, they find no peace; they sleep immersed in pain. ||2||
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀ (ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ) ਸਰੀਰ ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ (ਬੈਠੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ) ਸੋਹਣੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ (ਪਰ ਮਾਇਕ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੋਗੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ) ਉੱਡਦੇ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਚੌਹੀਂ ਪਾਸੀਂ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ,
The birds in the beautiful trees fly around in all four directions.
ਉਹ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਹੀ (ਚੋਗੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ) ਉੱਡਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਤਨਾ ਹੀ ਵਧੀਕ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਦਾ ਖਿੱਝਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਵਿਲਕਦੇ ਹਨ
The more they fly around, the more they suffer; they burn and cry out in pain.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ (ਲੋਕ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਸਦਾ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)
The faces of the Gurmukhs are always radiant; the Lord has come to dwell within their minds.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ । (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ) ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Through intuitive understanding they are at peace, and through intuitive understanding they remain absorbed in the Lord. ||1||
(ਜੇ ਪੁੱਛੋ ਕਿ) ਮਾਇਆ ਕਿਸ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੈ ? (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੈ ? ਜੀਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇਹੜੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ?
What is called Maya? What does Maya do?
(ਤਾਂ ਉੱਤਰ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਹੇਠ) ਇਹ ਜੀਵ ਦੁੱਖ (ਦੀ ਨਿਵਿਰਤੀ) ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ (ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ) ਵਿਚ ਬੱਝਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ‘ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਵਾਂ’ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
These beings are bound by pleasure and pain; they do their deeds in egotism.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ, (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ
O mind, chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and find peace.
(ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਆਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ । ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ (ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ) ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
Praising the Perfect Guru, you shall easily meet with that God. ||1||Pause||
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਿਆਂ ਹੀ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ) ਭਗਤੀ (ਦਾ ਜਜ਼ਬਾ) ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਵੈਰਾਗ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
In the state of intuitive balance, devotion wells up. In intuitive balance, love is balanced and detached.
ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ) ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ।੨।
In the state of intuitive balance, peace and tranquility are produced. Without intuitive balance, life is useless. ||2||
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪਏ ਤਾਂ (ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਲੱਖ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਾਲਾ) ਫੇਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦਾ, ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦੁਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
Meeting with the True Guru, you shall not have to go through the cycle of reincarnation again; the pains of birth and death will be taken away.
ਪੂਰੇ (ਅਭੁੱਲ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ (ਸਹੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Through the Perfect Word of the Shabad, all understanding is obtained; remain absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜੀ ਰੱਖੀਏ, ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਰੀਰ (ਭੀ) ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦੇ੍ਰ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਹਟੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ)
Serving the True Guru, the mind becomes immaculate, and the body becomes pure.
(ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆਨੰਦ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਆਤਮਕ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰੂ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਿਗਰੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ
The mind obtains bliss and eternal peace, meeting with the Deep and Profound Lord.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ,
and egotism is driven out from within.
ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਤਿ ਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭਾਗ ਜਾਗ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧੧।
The pain of evil-mindedness is eliminated; good fortune comes and shines radiantly from their foreheads. ||11||
ਇਹ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਟਿਕੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ
It permeates the hearts of Your devotees.
ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਣ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਤੂੰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ।੧੨।
Serving You, peace is obtained; granting Your Mercy, You bestow salvation. ||12||
ਅੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੀਭ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਆਦ (ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ) ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ, ਉੱਦਮ ਤੇ ਤਾਕਤ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ
Your eyes go blind, and your tongue is unable to taste; you live only with the help of others.
ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਕਦੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਸਾਏ, ਹੁਣ ਸੁਖ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਮਿਲੇ ? ਮਨ ਦੇ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
With no virtue within, how can you find peace? The self-willed manmukh comes and goes in reincarnation.
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਮਿਤ੍ਰ !) ਸੁਆਸ ਸੁਆਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰੋ, (ਇਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ) ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਆਲਸ ਨਾਹ ਕਰੋ, ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਅਟੱਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬਣ ਸਕੋਗੇ ।
Serve the Lord each and every instant-do not delay! You shall become eternal throughout the ages.
(ਹੇ ਜੀਵ-ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ! ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਸਦਾ ਮਾਣੋਗੇ ਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਾ ਸਕੇਗਾ
Enjoy ecstasy forever with the Lord, and do away with the pains of birth and death.
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਲੋਭ ਦੀਆਂ) ਲਹਿਰਾਂ ਉੱਠਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲੋਭੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਦੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ
The waves of greed are rising up within him, and he does not remember God.
ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਦੋਂ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਲ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ, (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਕਈ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਭਟਕਦਾ) ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ
He does not join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and he suffers in terrible pain through countless incarnations.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਗਲ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਭਗਤੀ ਵਾਲੇ ਲੱਛਣ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Held in the Lord's loving embrace, I look beautiful, and all my pains have been dispelled. By the loving worship of His devotees, the Lord has come under their power.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਉਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਣ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
All pleasures have come to dwell in the mind; the Lord of the Universe is pleased and appeased. Birth and death have been totally eliminated.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੱੁਖ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ (ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਖਾਣ) ਹੰਢਾਣ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ) ਨਿਰੋਲ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਬੀਤਦੀ ਹੈ
They enjoy peace, they wear peace, and they pass their lives in the peace of peace.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ (ਸੁਖਦਾਈ) ਨਾਮ ਮਨੋਂ ਵਿਸਾਰਨਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸੱਚੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੋਭਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ
O Nanak, they do not forget the Naam from the mind; they are honored in the Court of the Lord. ||1||
(ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਸੱਚਾ ਨਾਮ (ਰੂਪੀ) ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained. The True Name is the Treasure of Excellence.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ (ਉਹ) ਆਪੇ ਦੀ ਪਛਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਹਰੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਚਾਨਣ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹ
Follow the Guru's Teachings, and recognize your own self; the Divine Light of the Lord's Name shall shine within.
ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਉਹ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ
Sing the Praises of the True Lord through the Word of His Shabad, and you shall abide in the peace of peace.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਣੀ—ਇਹੀ ਉਸ ਲਈ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਤੇ ਸੰਜਮ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਜੋਗ (ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ)
You may practice chanting, penance and austere self-discipline within your mind, but without the Name, life is useless.
ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝ ਲਵੋ (ਭਾਵ, ਵੇਖ ਲਵੋ), ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ
Those who serve the True Guru obtain the Name. Reflect on this and understand.
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਕਲਪਣਾ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
Eternal peace and joy abide in their minds; they abandon their cries and complaints.
(ਮਨਮੁਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਦੀ ਖੋਜ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ
Attached to self-conceit and duality, they have forgotten their Lord and Master.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਹੀਣ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਰ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੁਖ ਦਾ ਕਦੀ ਮੂੰਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਦੇ) ।੧।
O Nanak, without the Name, everything is painful, and happiness is forgotten. ||1||
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ, ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਰਾਤ ਦਿਨ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਹੋਵੇ
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; it will bring you eternal peace, day and night.
ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ! ਹਰੀ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਭ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my mind; meditating on it, all sins and misdeeds shall be erased.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਭੇਦ ਲੱਭ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ) ਆਨੰਦ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ
This Sublime Essence comes only to one who knows the Mystery of the Lord.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੩।੧੦।
His light merges into the Light, and he finds peace. O servant Nanak, this is all the Extension of the One. ||4||3||10||
(ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਦੁੱਖ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਵਾਪਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ
They forget the Lord, and they suffer in pain.
(ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਉਤੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਪਾ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਕਈ ਢੰਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ
Afflicted with hunger, they run around in all directions.
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਚ (ਫਸਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਹੋਵਾਂ, ਚਾਹੇ) ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ (ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੋਵਾਂ) ਮੈਂ ਸਦਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤੇਰਾ ਹੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ)
In suffering and in comfort, I meditate on You, O Beloved.
ਇਹ ਚੰਗੀ ਅਕਲ ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਲਈ ਹੈ
I have obtained this sublime understanding from the Guru.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ
You are the Giver, You are the Architect of Destiny.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈਂ
You are All-powerful, the Giver of Eternal Peace.
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਹੈ) ਜੇਹੜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ
and are pleasing to Your Mind.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) (ਜੇਹੜੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਪੀ ਕੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਲੋਂ) ਸਦਾ ਰੱਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੧੩।੨੦।
In their company I have found a lasting peace. Nanak is satisfied and fulfilled with the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||4||13||20||
ਜਿਵੇਂ (ਕੋਈ) ਕੰਗਾਲ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਿਲਿਆ) ਧਨ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ
and the poor person is pleased by seeing wealth,
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਹਾਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਠੰਢਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਪੀ ਕੇ (ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਤਿਵੇਂ (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ! ਜੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ) ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਨਾਲ) ਭਿੱਜ ਜਾਏ (ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਵੇ) ।੨।
and the thirsty person is refreshed by drinking cool water, so is this mind drenched with delight in the Lord. ||2||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਤਾਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਬੜਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ।
Meditating on the Naam, I have found great peace.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨ ਠੰਢਾ-ਠਾਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ।
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, my mind is cooled and soothed.
ਭਗਤ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
His devotees live by singing the Glorious Praises of the Infinite Lord.
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ । ਭਗਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
The Ambrosial Name of the Lord is the Treasure of Excellence. Meditating, meditating on the Lord's Name, I have found peace. ||1||
ਜਦੋਂ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੰਦੇ (ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦੇ ਹਨ,
The Saints and friends have met to chant the Naam.
(ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ ਬੰਦੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਠੰਢ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਉਥੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਤਪਸ਼ ਮਿਟਾ ਕੇ) ਆਤਮਕ ਠੰਢ ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
Serene tranquility and peaceful ease have come; God Himself has brought a deep and profound peace. ||1||
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿਆਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Chanting the Naam, all pleasures are obtained.
(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ !) ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸਾਰਾ ਡਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
All fears are erased, meditating on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ
as the mother cares for her children.
(ਸਭ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਰਾਕ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
The Destroyer of pain, the Ocean of Peace, the Lord and Master gives sustenance to all. ||2||
ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸੁਖੀ ਵਸਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ,
All beings and creatures dwell in peace.
(ਤਿਵੇਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ) ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ, ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Suffering has been dispelled, and true happiness has dawned, as we meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਾਰੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਹੀ ਲੈਣੇ ਹਨ (ਸਦਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ), ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਦਾ ਵਸੀਲਾ ਹੈਂ ।
O God, from You I receive; You are my decoration.
(ਸੁਖ ਚਾਹੇ ਦੁੱਖ) ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਖ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਕਬੂਲਦਾ ਹਾਂ) ।
Whatever You give me, brings me happiness.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ ! (ਆਖ—ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !) ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ,
Meditating, meditating in remembrance, Nanak has found peace.
ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਦੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਏ ਹਨ
Twenty-four hours a day, I sing Your Glorious Praises.
ਜਦੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਵੇ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।
All happiness comes, when God is pleased.
(ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨ (ਕਿਸੇ ਵਡ-ਭਾਗੀ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ
The Feet of the Perfect Guru dwell in my mind.
ਹੇ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ! ਹੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ !
The Supreme Lord God is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਉੇਸੇ ਨੇ ਹੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਵਾਂਦਾ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਜੁਆਰੀਆ ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੨।
Those who serve the Lord find peace; they do not lose their lives in the gamble. ||2||
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ ।
Meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, my heart is filled with peace.
(ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ) ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ) ਪਰਗਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ
By His Grace, His devotees become famous and acclaimed.
(ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਟਿਕਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Center your awareness on seva-selfless service-and focus your consciousness on the Word of the Shabad.
(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਉਹ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ ਮੋਹ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Subduing your ego, you shall find a lasting peace, and your emotional attachment to Maya will be dispelled. ||1||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ।
Serving the Guru, I have found eternal peace;
ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਮਮਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਕੇ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
my ego has been silenced and subdued.
(ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਸਦਾ ਭੁੱਲਣਹਾਰ ਹਾਂ) ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਸਾਡੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹਿਸਾਬ ਮੰਗਣ ਲੱਗੇ, ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਵ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਉਤਰ ਸਕਦਾ) ।
When they are called to settle their accounts, who will answer then?
(ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ) ਲੇਖਾ ਗਿਣਾਇਆਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਲੇਖੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਆਸ ਤੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ ।
There shall be no peace then, from counting out by twos and threes.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
The True Lord God Himself forgives, and having forgiven, He unites them with Himself. ||7||
ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਗੁਪਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ) ਜਦੋਂ ਵੇਖ ਲਿਆ ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰਸ ਵਿਚ) ਭਿੱਜ ਗਿਆ ।
As Gurmukh, I see Him, and then this mind is pleased and uplifted.
(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ, ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸ ਪਿਆ ।
Renouncing desire, I have found intuitive peace and poise; I have enshrined the One within my mind. ||1||
ਜਗਤ (ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਕੇ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਦੁਖੀ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Attached to duality, the world is distracted and distressed to death.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ।੬।
One who becomes Gurmukh knows only the One. Serving the One, peace is obtained. ||6||
ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
the blind self-willed manmukhs are attached to the love of duality.
ਜੇਹੜਾ (ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਬੀਜ) ਉਹ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੀਜਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਹੀ (ਦੁਖਦਾਈ) ਫਲ ਉਹ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਸੁਪਨੇ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ ।੪।
As they plant, so do they harvest. They shall not obtain peace, even in their dreams. ||4||
ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਲ ਦੀ) ਦੌੜ-ਭੱਜ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਿਆ,
Dispelling their doubts, they find a lasting peace.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈ ।
By Guru's Grace, the supreme status is attained.
ਪਰ ਆਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ । ਉਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ।
but deluded by doubt, they do not understand the essence of reality.
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਦੱਸੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਾਣ ਸਕਦਾ, ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ (ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ) ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੭।
Without serving the True Guru, they find no peace; they earn only pain and misery. ||7||
(ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਤੇ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਨ,
One who looks upon pleasure and pain as one and the same,
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਤਾਹੀਏਂ) ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਤੇ ਅਸਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ॥੬॥
O Nanak, is not affected by sin or virtue. ||6||
ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਾਡਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੇਹੜਾ (ਸਦੀਵੀ ਮਿੱਤਰ) ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?
Without the Lord's Name, who is ours?
(ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਉਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੋ ਜਿਹਾ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਸਮਝ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ (ਕਦੇ) ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡਾਂਗਾ । (ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਿਸਚਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
I look upon pleasure and pain alike; I shall not forsake the Naam, the Name of the Lord. The Lord Himself forgives me, and blends me with Himself. ||1||Pause||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ । (ਸਾਰੇ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਹਿਨਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਅੰਨ) ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹ
You are the Giver of all beings; they eat and wear what You give them. ||2||
ਹੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਕਦੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ । (ਤੈਥੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ (ਆਸਰੇ ਦੀ) ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ
Pleasure and pain come by Your Will, O Beloved; they do not come from any other. ||3||
(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੇਰੀ ਅਜਬ ਕੁਦਰਤ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਬਿਪਤਾ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ) ਇਲਾਜ (ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੀ) ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਸੁਖ (ਉਹਨਾਂ ਲਈ) ਦੁੱਖ ਦਾ (ਕਾਰਨ) ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ । ਪਰ ਜੇ (ਅਸਲੀ ਆਤਮਕ) ਸੁਖ (ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ, ਤਾਂ (ਦੁੱਖ) ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ।
Suffering is the medicine, and pleasure the disease, because where there is pleasure, there is no desire for God.
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਕਰਨਹਾਰ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ (ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਭੇਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈਂ), ਮੇਰੀ ਸਮਰਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਾਂ) । ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਸਮਝ ਲਵਾਂ (ਭਾਵ, ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਵਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ) ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਫਬਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ।੧।
You are the Creator Lord; I can do nothing. Even if I try, nothing happens. ||1||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਦੇ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ)
Those who recognize the Lord's Command never weep.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ੀਸ਼ (ਸਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪਰੋਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧੮।
O Nanak, they are blessed with the gift of the Name, woven into the fabric of their minds. ||18||
(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦਾ) ਪਿਆਰ ਮਾਇਆ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਇਆਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ ।
The faithless cynic does not obtain the Lord's Love; the Lord's Love is obtained only through the True Guru.
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੱਬ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।੭।
One who meets with the Guru, the Giver of pleasure and pain, says Nanak, is absorbed in the Lord's Praise. ||4||7||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ) ਕੋਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਮਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖਣ ਦੇਂਦਾ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੁੱਢ-ਕਦੀਮਾਂ ਦਾ (ਪਿਆਰ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸੁਭਾਉ ਸਦਾ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ।
He does not let His devotees see the difficult times; this is His innate nature.
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਸੇਵਕ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਹਰੇਕ ਸਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਲਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੧।
Giving His hand, He protects His devotee; with each and every breath, He cherishes him. ||1||
ਪਰ (ਜਿਤਨਾ ਚਿਰ) ਕਰਤਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੱਸਦਾ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਦੁੱਖ ਵਿਆਪਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
But he does not think of the Creator Lord, and so he is overtaken by pain, again and again.
(ਹਾਂ,) ਜਿਸ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੋਈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ (ਤੇ ਉਹ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਲਸਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ) ।੪।
But one, within whose mind the Giver of pleasure and pain dwells - how can his body feel any need? ||4||
ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਤੇ ਮਰਨ, ਸੁਖ ਤੇ ਦੁਖ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।
creation and destruction, pleasure and pain.
ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੁਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅਟੱਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇਹੜਾ ਸਦਾ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ।੮।
The Gurmukh is immortal, untouched by pleasure and pain. He obtains the home of his own inner being. ||8||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਬਹੁਤਾ ਧਨ ਖੱਟਣ ਨਾਲ (ਆਤਮਕ) ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ,
There is no peace in earning lots of money.
ਨਾਟਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਚ ਵੇਖਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਹੀਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
There is no peace in watching dances and plays.
ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਸੁਖਾਂ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਰਲੇਪ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,
One who remains unattached, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad
ਉਹ ਚਿੱਤ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ (ਸਦਾ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।੮।੪।
- O Nanak, his heart and consciousness dwell upon and savor the Lord. ||8||4||
ਮੱਛੀ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪੂਰਬਲੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ,
The fish lives in water, from which it was born. It finds peace and pleasure according to its past actions.
ਪਾਣੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਇਕ ਖਿਨ ਭਰ ਤਿਲ ਭਰ ਪਲ ਭਰ ਭੀ ਜੀਊ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ । ਉਸ ਦਾ ਮਰਨ ਜੀਊਣ (ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਵਸੇਬਾ) ਉਸ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ (ਸੰਭਵ) ਹੈ ।੪।
It cannot survive without water for a moment, even for an instant. Life and death depend on it. ||4||
ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ (ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ) ਦੁੱਖ ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਦਬਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੁਖ ਕਦੇ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ।
Pain and suffering afflict the self-willed manmukh. The pains of the self-willed manmukh shall never depart.
ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਸੁਖ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ।੨।
The Gurmukh recognizes the Giver of pleasure and pain. He merges in His Sanctuary. ||2||
